We are thrilled to announce the release of our new short film, The Leap Beneath, now available on our YouTube channel!
Produced by the talented team at Wildreach Productions and narrated by the incredible Coyote Peterson, this extraordinary film takes you on a journey into the mesmerizing world of soil fauna.
Captured through the Laowa Sword FF Macro Cine Series lenses, The Leap Beneath reveals the fascinating creatures that live right beneath our feet, showcasing their intricate details with stunning clarity.
To learn a bit more on this project, we have done a little Q&A with Roman Willi, the director of photography of The Leap Beneath:
1. What inspired the concept of The Leap Beneath and focusing on soil fauna?
There aren’t many films focussing on these overlooked animals. I wanted to make a film that shows the incredible diversity of soil animals in an entertaining way. With Coyote Peterson as the narrator, it was a perfect fit!
2. Can you share any interesting or surprising moments you encountered while shooting the film?
I built a little studio in the basement and filmed most of the shots there. To get my subject, I just went into the garden and picked up some leaflitter and dead wood. It’s amazing what you can find in your own backyard.
3. What do you hope viewers will take away from watching The Leap Beneath?
I have always been fascinated by the “ugly” animals like insects, spiders, amphibians and so on. I hope that viewers will look at this hidden world in a different way after watching this film and understand how important all these little creatures are to keep the ecosystems healthy.
4. How did using the Laowa Sword FF Macro Cine Series lenses impact the filming process?
The lenses are very well built and I personally love the integrated focusgears. This helped me alot for the establishing shots which I filmed with an electronic slider and wireless follow focus. The 15mm is truly an amazing lens as it is really lightweight which helped me balance it easily on the slider.
